Rau Bistro Wrap and Roll Basket Review

Proclaimed as a modernized yet authentic Vietnamese street food restaurant, I recently visited Rau Bistro. Located in the small strip mall next to Rotary Park, it is unassuming from the outside but quite nice and modern looking on the inside.

Looking for something fun to try, my boyfriend and I settled on one of their wrap and roll baskets for two. We chose the second option which has "la lot beef", sausage, and shrimp paste along with many vegetables to wrap them with. Of course, they also came with rice paper and hot water for you to make your wraps!

The different types of meat were all quite delicious. My favourite was the shrimp paste skewers (unfortunately they were also the least provided), but the most special was the la lot beef, which had a fragrant smell and taste from being wrapped in betel leaves.

Apart from the meat, the given side vegetables including pickled radish and carrots, lettuce, herbs, and even some pineapple were very fresh and welcome. If anything, maybe the cucumber could've been cut a little thinner.

One of my better-looking rolls

From online reviews about Rau Bistro, I expected to have a very large amount of food as most said that they left with leftovers to take home. The wrap and roll basket for two cost $43 before tax and tip and was certainly a memorable experience, but it was not as much of a crazy amount of food as many reviewers seemed to indicate. We did finish this meal for 2 satisfied and happy, so it wasn't too little! If I hadn't read reviews beforehand this wouldn't be a problem, so this is less of a complaint and more of a heads-up.

I would give my experience here a MIAM MIAM MIAM MIAM out of MIAM MIAM MIAM MIAM MIAM, and I hope to go back to try some other dishes because they have a lot of interesting options.

I would also like to give them bonus points for having a full menu with prices online: https://raubistroyyc.ca/menu/

Thank you for reading this post and please let me know what I should try next. Until next Miam,
Ana

5 Things to do Before the UCalgary Semester Starts

I know, I know... summer is almost over already and it feels like it's barely started. Regardless, it's only a bit more than a week before classes start again (less if you're doing Block Week, which I tried last year ), so here are some reminders before the school year begins. Set up your calendar For UCalgary students, download your class times through the D2L portal and  import your them to your preferred service (mine is Outlook) : Personally, I like to colour code and label lectures/tutorials/labs separately on my calendar like so: Of course, many people also just take a screenshot of their timetable and set it as a wallpaper or save it somewhere easy to access; that can work too :). Put in your Course Overload Request(s) This is a pretty urgent and important one: make sure you check your degree requirements. If you're still waitlisted or not enrolled for a course that you need  to take this year, then you should submit a course overload request ASAP. At UCalgary fo...

9 Not-So-Obvious Dorm Essentials

These aren’t necessarily things you need to pack in advance (you could buy them after moving in), but they are things that I personally found useful which aren’t usually listed in traditional packing lists. Earplugs or Sleep Sound Machine Dorms unfortunately often have the issues of noisy neighbours and loud garbage trucks or snow plows at strange hours. If you find this bothering you, invest in some earplugs (much cheaper at Shoppers or Amazon than in the on-campus pharmacy) or a sound machine. If regular earplugs are uncomfortable for you, you can try “women’s” earplugs (they might fit better for you regardless of gender). Humidifier
